GYMNASTIC PLANET HANDGUARD SIZING

Many of our customers often request a help choosing correct size of handguards. Sizing charts of handguards are published on our web site. Please note: each style of handguards has their own sizing chart so please only follow sizing chart of the product you are planning to purchase.

These measurements have been provided as an approximate guide. They in no way guarantee a safe or perfect fit. Only the gymnast and his/her coach can decide on the appropriate size by evaluating the actual handguard once it is on the gymnast's hand. There are dimensions to the hand that cannot be taken into account with a flat measurement and there are several positions on the wrist where the gymnast might decide to settle the wristband and handguard. Therefore, only the gymnast and his/her coach can make the proper judgment as to the correct size for any gymnast.

Women’s Uneven Bar Guards:

We sell large variety of handguards for girls (Pixie, Reisport, Hot Shot, RKO, Tensport, Bailie, Angel and many more).

We generally recommend Angel, Pixie and HotShot styles for the younger gymnasts or gymnasts with tiny hands. These styles are narrow and they help gymnasts to have good hand to bar contact, which helps gymnasts to feel safe and secure on bars.

For older and more advanced gymnasts we recommend Reisport, RKO, Tensport and Bailie guards. These guards are wider and will give you best protection against blisters as well as providing good grip of the bar.

Women's uneven bar guards are worn on the first knuckle. The hand should be able to extend from 170° to 180°. This is the longest of all guards due to the larger diameter of the women's bar rails. The imprint (logo) is worn toward the palm. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD A WOMEN'S UNEVEN BAR GUARDS BE WORN ON THE MEN'S HIGH BAR.

Mens High Bar Guards:

Getting right size of men’s High Bar Guards is CRUCIAL!

The men's high bar guards are worn on between the first and second knuckle. The imprint (logo) is worn towards the palm. With the guards on and fingers extended as much as possible there should be a 145° to 160°-degree angle formed by the fingers and the palm (see image below). This is a crucial measurement. If the angle is greater than 160 degrees, the guards are too long and could lock up on the bar causing the wrists to break ("locking up" is caused by the leather at the fingertip end grabbing the leather at the palm and giving a brake-like action so that the hands stop but the body continues to rotate). As you can see, the longer the guard is the more likely it is to have the top of the guard get caught in the bottom of the guard. The heavier the gymnast is, the more advanced a gymnast is, and the more release moves a gymnast does...the more likely the guard is to stretch rapidly. Remember this and order accordingly.

High Bar handguards are produced in a slightly differently shape for your Right and Left hands. Please see below the image on how to identify your Right guard from the Left.

Mens Ring Guards:

Men's ring guards are worn with the holes between the first and second knuckle. The imprint (logo) is worn towards the palm. With the guards on and the fingers extended as much as possible, there should be an angle of 150 to 170 degrees formed between the fingers and the palm.

Heavier and more advanced gymnasts will stretch the grips more rapidly. Keep this in mind when ordering. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD RING GUARDS BE USED ON THE HIGH BAR.

REMEMBER: IF your GUARDS are going to BREAK, it could possibly happen at a competition! (OR THE DAY BEFORE A COMPETITION), so ALWAYS have a BACK-UP PAIR OF GUARDS.
